Building a Stronger Community, Together
Partnering with Doernbecher to support families during critical times
When a child is discharged from the hospital, parents face a million unknowns—food shouldn’t be one of them. That’s why Nourish Oregon partners with Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to provide fresh, healthy food boxes to families transitioning home after inpatient care.
These boxes are more than meals—they’re a lifeline of relief and stability
during recovery.
The Food for Health Network provides Doernbecher inpatient families with fresh, healthy food when arriving home from the hospital.
Portland Open Bible, in conjunction with several area food pantries, has partnered with Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to support the delivery and distribution of essential food and supplies to patients and their families. The program leverages innovative technology with a local software partner, Full, to connect patients to organizations that serve their local areas.
Participating organizations in the Food for Health Network include:
Portland Adventist Community Services, Clackamas Service Center, Tualatin Food Pantry, SnowCap, Neighborhood House of Bread, Lift Urban Portland, Ester's Pantry, St. John's Food Share, and Bethlehem House of Bread.
How the Program Works
Each box contains:
Fresh fruits & vegetables
Whole grains & proteins
Shelf-stable pantry staples
Comfort foods for children
Household essentials (such as toiletries)
Boxes are assembled by our team and delivered directly to families' homes by trained volunteers and drivers across Oregon.
How you can Help
Many families face job disruptions, transportation issues, and food insecurity during a child’s recovery. Your support helps bridge that gap, ensuring families can focus on healing, not hunger. Your donation directly supports:
Groceries and supplies for each food box
Gas and mileage reimbursement for our drivers
Wages for trusted delivery drivers who reach rural or high-need areas
Every $50 donation supports a full week of groceries for a recovering child and their families.
It takes a community.
Nourish Oregon’s work is made possible by the generosity of local businesses, organizations, and volunteers who believe in our mission and support families across Oregon.
